The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 13 projects costing Tk 8,333.28 crore. Of this, government financing is Tk 4,437.82 crore, project loan is Tk 1,225.36 crore and the organization’s own financing is Tk 2,670.9 crore. Of these, seven are new projects, five are revised projects and one is a project with an extension of the period without increasing the cost.
The approval was given at the ECNEC meeting held at the NEC conference room on the Planning Commission premises on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Chief Advisor and ECNEC Chairperson Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
The meeting was attended by Planning Advisor Wahiduddin Mahmud; Finance and Science and Technology Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed; Home Affairs and Agriculture Advisor Lieutenant General (retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury; Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain; Liberation War Affairs and Disaster Management and Relief Advisor Faruk-e-Azam; Education Advisor Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar; Industries and Housing and Public Works Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan; Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Road Transport and Bridges and Railways Advisor Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan; Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Water Resources Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan and concerned officials participated.
The 13 approved projects are—a project of the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs—Tathya Apa: Empowerment of Women through Information and Communication Technology Project (2nd Phase) (3rd Revised) Project. A project of the Ministry of Education—Modernization and necessary infrastructure development including capacity building of laboratories of Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology, Gazipur.
Three projects of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources—(1) 2000 Horsepower Rig Purchase Project; (2) Drilling of four appraisal cum development wells (Shahbazpur-5, 7 and Bhola North-3, 4) and one exploration well (Shahbazpur North-East-1). (3) Network infrastructure development and modernization of power distribution system in NESCO area.
One from the Ministry of Commerce—Export Competitiveness for Jobs (EC 4 J) (3rd Amendment) project.
One from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief—Construction of Multipurpose Cyclone Shelters in Coastal and Cyclone Prone Areas (Phase 3).
One from the Ministry of Textiles and Jute—(1) Sheikh Hasina Specialized Jute Textile Mill (1st Amendment for completion) proposed ‘Jamuna Specialized Jute and Textile Mill’ (1st Amendment).
Three from the Ministry of Local Government—(1) Khulna Water Supply Project (Phase-II); (2) Land Acquisition and Development (1st Revised) Project for Solid Waste Management in Kadamrosul Area of Narayanganj City Corporation. (3) Integrated Service and Livelihood for Displaced people from Myanmar and Host Communities Improvement Project (LGED Part) Project.
A project of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism—Sylhet Osmani International Airport Expansion Project (1st Phase) (1st Revised).
A project of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works—Construction of Multi-Storey Residential Flats for Government Officials and Employees in Mirpur Paikpara, Dhaka (1st Revised) Fourth Extension Project has been approved.
In addition, the meeting informed the ECNEC members about the 11 projects already approved by the Planning Advisor.
